Couple rescues a tiny gray kitten who was crying out for help from the inside of a storm drain, get its fractured paw in an itty bitty splint, and appropriately name him Love Bug

Just when we need a little tiny something to help restore our faith in humanity, we come across something like this. A tiny little kitten who was saved by a tiny little act of kindness. 

Kindness feels like something relatively rare in the world today. Everything we see on social media is ragebait, clickbait. Those are things that are purposefully there to emphasize everything that is wrong with the world. And there's enough of it to emphasize. But there are good things too. Sprinkled throughout your feed, hidden within the maddness, are stories of people rescuing itty bitty kitties in need of help. And as long as those wholesome cat stories are there, then we cannot lose hope. It means that good people and good deeds still shine through. 

No matter how difficult it might get in the world, there are always people out there who make time to rescue kittens who need them, like this one shared on r/cats. If you just focus hard enough, you will see these stories everywhere. Click on one, and suddenly, your feed will know to show you more of them. And you want to see them all. You want this kindness on your feed, in your life, showing up as much as possible.

    "Rescued a kitten in a storm drain."

    My wife and I are driving back to our home state and we stopped for lunch. I heard kitten cries coming from a storm drain. After some effort and help from others we were able to get him out. We immediately took him to a local vet to have him checked.

    He has no chip, they assessed him at 5 weeks old. He has no fleas. He does have a limp front left paw but they said he did put weight on it and was walking and trying to jump down.

    We have him in our car now. We stopped to get food, litter, a soft carrier, etc. he's currently wrapped up in a shirt and sleeping on my lap.

    We're concerned about the front paw. The vet clinic said it seemed fine, but we want to have it x-rayed when we get home. I'm also concerned the vet didn't seem too concerned about his paw. It was a reputable clinic, so maybe we're just being overly cautious? We want to keep him and already love him.

    We just want what is best for him. They wrote down some items for us like when to get him vaccinated, and follow ups. I'm also concerned if he sleeps a lot. I've read excessive sleeping can be a sign of decline.

  • Honestly, it's stories like these that restore our hope in humanity just a little bit. Even with all of the things going on in the world, people still go out of their way to help a kitten in need. There must have been dozens, maybe hundreds, of people who passed that storm drain and heard that kitty, but it took two kind people to actually do something about it. And these kind people were right there, ready to do the right thing. And we're thankful for that.

    Update: we named him Love Bug. He just got done at the vet's office. He has a small fracture on his paw and got a splint. He's not happy about it but we're overjoyed he's doing better! He's eating well, using the litter box, and loves to play!

  • It looks like no pain in his paw is going to stop him from doing what he wants to do. Oh, this is one spicy kitty, we can just tell. Full of life, full of energy. The crime rate in your house will spike in a way that you will never expect it to. And you will love every single second of it. The same way that the rest of us cat owners do.

    atxceo OP The first vet we stopped at was a local one in the town we found him out of state. We're back home now and took him to our local vet. He's not too happy about it!
